Every morning, Sunshine vehicles do more than provide transportation. They help people get to work, attend adult day programs, volunteer, participate in community activities and stay connected to the people and places around them.

For Seth, a Transportation Driver at Sunshine, every mile is about more than the destination—it's about building relationships. "What I enjoy most is seeing the individuals smile and have fun while they're heading to work or their programs. Getting to know everyone and building those relationships is the best part of my day."Sunshine Communities transportation driver behind the wheel of a Sunshine vehicle in Maumee, Ohio.

Seth joined Sunshine four years ago after graduating from Penta Career Center's Automotive Technology Program. During his senior year, he shadowed Sunshine Fleet Supervisor Doug Layman and discovered a place where he could continue learning long after graduation. "Everyone at Sunshine was patient and willing to teach me, and I knew it was a place where I could continue learning and growing." He began as a mechanic's helper before learning one of Sunshine's transportation routes and becoming a driver. His education gave him a strong understanding of vehicles, while Sunshine taught him the importance of patience, kindness, and building trust.

Those relationships have led to some of Seth's most meaningful experiences in his current role. "One of my proudest moments was when I was driving on Lauren's route. Her parents would always tell me how much they appreciated the patience and care I showed her." He also remembers receiving a card from Josh's dad thanking him for his kindness as he transitioned into working in the shop more often. "That meant a lot to me because it reminded me that the little things, like being patient, listening, and treating people with kindness, can make a real difference. Knowing that I made a positive impact on someone and their family is something I'll always be proud of.

Transportation is about so much more than getting someone from one place to another. It's about making sure someone gets to work on time, arrives at a doctor's appointment, attends a favorite community event, or spends the afternoon with friends and family. With more resources, we can replace aging vehicles, keep our fleet running safely, and reduce unexpected breakdowns that interrupt daily routines. Reliable transportation gives the people we support the freedom to stay connected, be more independent, and experience more of their community. I'm proud to be part of the team that makes that happen."
