Sunshine’s hands-on Learning Center was established to better equip staff through both simulation-based learning and real-world practical training. This dedicated space allows new and existing team members to practice critical skills in a supportive environment before stepping into direct care roles. Our training approach is stronger than that offered by many other providers, helping staff feel more confident and capable in their work. Since opening the center, we’ve seen a significant improvement in staff retention, reflecting the value of this investment in preparation and support.
Our classes include, but are not limited to, the following:
Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD)
- DODD Medication Administration Certification 1
- DODD Medication Administration Certification 2 (G/J tube medication administration)
Renewal courses for these certifications at least 3 times a month for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). It is a requirement by the DODD that all medication-certified personnel complete an annual renewal course to maintain certification.
- CPR Classes through the American Red Cross for all DSPs and employees
- BLS Classes through the American Heart Association for all Nurses
- New Nurse Orientation Course
- Tracheostomy and Ventilator Safety Training Course for Nurses & Separate Course for DSPs
- Emergency Response Training Course (this was newly added for nurses with the hope of expanding it to other personnel)
