When it opens this year, the Life Coaching Center in Toledo will offer participants space to learn skills of independence – for work, for home and for social settings – in a working house.
Participants learn cooking, cleaning, laundry and other tasks necessary for more independent or community-based living, and they sharpen skills for workplaces and social settings. For some, this will smooth the transition from childhood into adulthood; for others, this will ease the move from campus living to residing in smaller neighborhoods.
Supported with state funding, this extraordinary classroom opened late in 2016, expanding Sunshine’s “person-centered planning” mission. Sunshine is about understanding and respecting individual life choices and – for those who choose to be more a part of their community, this erects the supports to make those choices a reality.
