More than mere convenience, technology can empower people with disabilities with better safety, security, and independence.
More than 100 men, women and children live on Sunshine’s main campus in Maumee or in the 21 family care homes in Lucas, Fulton, and Wood counties. Small renovations and brand new technology can transform these living spaces into semi-smart homes and enable residents with disabilities to make their own on-the-spot decisions and rely less on staff. Imagine this: A smart speaker can help a resident flip on bedroom lights, adjust the radio volume, or build a grocery list without having to call for assistance!
Staff is always around to ensure safety and comfort, but small changes in technology will empower residents to continue to grow their confidence and independence.
