Barn staff

A part-time barn staff will care for a variety of large and small animals for Sunshine’s therapeutic animal program. Sunshine Communities is looking for dependable candidates with a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and good communication skills. Must be at least 18 years old.

Job duties include:

  • Feeding animals
  • Handling animals daily including turnout, bringing in, and hoof cleaning
  • Mucking stalls, and removing manure from paddocks, pastures and run-in shed
  • Cleaning small animal hutches and pens
  • Scrubbing water buckets, troughs, and bottles to ensure animals have fresh water daily
  • Grooming and bathing animals
  • Providing medication or wound care as needed
  • Following daily checklist to ensure all tasks are met
  • Other duties may include tack cleaning and arena maintenance

Requirements

  • Two years experience with horses and knowledge of common equine illnesses, nutrition needs, horse handling skills, and maintaining high-quality of feed and care.
  • Ability to physically do all tasks required including lifting 50 pounds of muck buckets, hay bales, shaving and feed bags
  • Availability to work a variety of shifts, days, evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions
  • Flexibility and willingness to cover shift when there is a call- off
  • Adherence to no smoking policy on Sunshine campus
  • Ability to drive a tractor a plus

NEW! Community Food Technician

A Community Food Technician at Sunshine prepares and cooks meals for individuals in their homes and others as needed.

He or she will:

  • Cook food by following menu, standardized recipes, and production sheet, for all meals including ensuring an alternative is available. Fresh ingredients and the least amount of processed food possible will be used,
  • Prepare food and beverages based on individual preferences and diet orders,
  • Follow therapeutic diets as prescribed by physician/dietician,
  • Taste and smell prepared food items to determine quality and palatability,
  • Train staff to follow menus, recipes, and production sheets, along with serving food to meet portion control and food analysis,
  • Follow therapeutic diets as prescribed by physician/dietician,
  • Improve quality results by regularly obtaining feedback from individuals, families and staff,
  • Shops for groceries based on menus and food budgets in each community home,
  • Work collaboratively as part of the team with home staff, manager, and dietary manager to provide fresh, high quality food and service,
  • Ensure home’s kitchen and equipment is maintained in clean, working order by following regular cleaning schedule, operating instructions,
  • Perform preventative maintenance; troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain replacement parts inventory, and notify management when repairs are necessary,
  • Follow safe food handling procedures; monitor/document temperature of meal through preparation and service to ensure temperatures are maintained throughout meal service,
  • Monitor safe food storage practices, corrects if there are issues, and provides feedback to staff as needed, and
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, 1 year of education in quantity cooking and therapeutic diets. Experience in health care is preferred. Minimum 1 year food service/health care experience is desired. Cooks will be trained in dietary positions before being trained as a cook.

An aquatics supervisor provides for activities that are good for mind and body.

Sunshine’s Aquatics Supervisor promotes recreational and aquatics programs within Sunshine and with outside organizations. This person also coordinates activities for aquatics, Sunshine’s multisensory room, and Sunshine’s recently renovated gym. The aquatics supervisor ensures maintenance and upkeep of pool and locker room areas, gym and multisensory room. In particular, this person:

  • Keeps an inventory of supplies and orders as needed.
  • Schedules the pool and whirlpool use for the residents/clients of Sunshine and other outside parties.
  • Provides direct supervision of the lifeguards. Schedules lifeguards to ensure adequate coverage for programs.
  • Markets Sunshine’s recreational facilities to organizations serving people with disabilities.
  • Instructs arthritis exercise classes and others as needed.
  • Adapts recreational and aquatic programs to meet needs of individual with disabilities.
  • Coordinates and submits billing to the finance department on revenue from the gym, Multisensory room and pool areas.
  • Provides staff training in conjunction with the Clinical Services Department.
  • Coordinates wellness programs with Human Resources as appropriate.

Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

A Manager Trainee at Sunshine develops and oversees services that support individuals with developmental disabilities, their families and staff.

Among the responsibilities:
• Working with individuals and their family and support network to develop a plan of support.
• Assessing needs acuity and supporting documentation using required state assessment tools such as ODDP, IAF, and AAI.
• Ensuring thorough assessment of needs, involving clinical staff as appropriate, including OT, PT, Speech, Medical, Nursing and Behavior Analyst
• Developing, or assisting in the development of, support plans that address needs and preferences of the individual and family and assuring all necessary approvals are in place before implementation.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree required, and one or more years’ experience in the field of developmental disabilities, or a combination of education and relevant experience. One or more years’ experience in supervision strongly preferred.

Occupational Therapist – Part-time

This position offers a flexible schedule at Sunshine Communities, a non-profit which has supported people with intellectual and developmental disabilities since 1950. A part-time occupational therapist will be a member of a larger clinical team of physical, occupational, speech, and behavioral therapists working with men, women and children of all ages.

Driver - Part Time

A Sunshine driver transports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to and from home and work as well as trips around the community. Open positions are on 1st and 2nd shifts and will include about 20 hours a week.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have a valid driver’s license with at least 2 years of driving experience and an excellent driving record. Must be able to pass a background check as well as a drug screen and physical exam.
  • Previous work experience in transportation is a plus, but not required.
